Day 25 of 30

Seated in Heavenly Places

From the Peace in Chaos devotional series

"And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus."

— Ephesians 2:6

Reflection

Try this physically. Stand up where you are. Now sit back down — slowly, deliberately, as if you have earned the seat. Notice the difference in your body. Standing is alert, defensive, ready to react. Sitting is settled. Paul does not write that you are standing guard or waiting at the door of the kingdom. He writes that you are seated. The battle has already been fought, the verdict has already been issued, and you are sitting on the winning side. Most of us are exhausted because we are still standing in a war that ended without us noticing.

Prayer

No words today. Stay seated for sixty full seconds. Notice what your body is afraid to release if you stop standing guard.

Peace Challenge

Pick a physical chair in your home and quietly call it the seated place. When anxiety hits today, walk to that chair and sit there for thirty seconds before doing anything else. Practice — with your body, not just your mind — the truth that you are not fighting from below. You are seated above.
