Day 5 of 30

Choosing Peace Over Anxiety

From the Peace in Chaos devotional series

"Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you."

— 1 Peter 5:7

Reflection

Notice what is happening in your hands right now. Are they tight? Clenched around a phone, a steering wheel, a bag handle, an idea? The verse does not say mention your cares. It says cast them. Throw them. Send them somewhere far. The reason most of us still feel weighed down is that we keep picking up what we have already supposedly handed over. So here is an honest question to sit with today: what did you give to God last week that has somehow ended up back on your shoulders by Wednesday — and why?

Prayer

No prepared words today. Sit with this question for sixty seconds: what am I unwilling to release right now? When the silence ends, say only this: I trust You with my answer.

Peace Challenge

Carry a small object in your pocket today — a coin, a key, a stone. Each time you touch it, name one thing you are trying to release. By bedtime, leave the object on your nightstand and choose not to pick it back up tomorrow.

How to Use Today's Devotional

Begin by reading the Scripture passage slowly, then read the reflection as a prompt rather than as a replacement for the biblical text. The goal of this series is to help you practice peace in ordinary life: paying attention to God, naming what is heavy, praying honestly, and taking one faithful step.

If you have time, copy one phrase from the verse and carry it with you through the day. Return to the prayer in the evening and notice what changed in your thoughts, conversations, or reactions. Small repeated practices often shape the heart more deeply than a single intense moment.

For wider context, open the passage in the Bible reader, compare translations, and read the surrounding chapter. You can also continue with the next day in this devotional or browse Bible verses about peace.
